There comes a time when legacy must move from words into action. That time is now.
As the legal owner and guardian of the Jonah Lomu brand, legacy rights, trademarks, and authorised usage, I carry both the privilege and responsibility of ensuring Jonah’s name continues to stand for something greater than history alone. It must continue to inspire, uplift, and create real opportunities for others.
That is exactly why the Jonah Lomu Legacy International U18’s Tournament has been created.
This is more than an event. It is the beginning of a movement built on hope, courage, and the love of rugby. It is about giving young players a stage to dream bigger, believe deeper, and understand that greatness can come from anywhere.
Rugby gave Jonah a pathway to the world. It taught discipline, pride, resilience, and brotherhood. Through this tournament, we want more young people to feel that same possibility in their hearts.
This tournament stands proudly at a time when that mission is needed more than ever.
A sport once regarded as one of the greatest games in the world now faces real challenges. Youth pathways are narrowing, opportunities are depleting, community connection is being tested, and too many young players are left wondering where their future in rugby belongs. Pasifika voices, which have given so much strength, pride, and brilliance to the game, too often feel dampened rather than championed. The loss of pathways such as Moana Pasifika being diminished in the wider conversation only deepens the concern many people feel for the future of our people in the sport.
That is why this tournament matters.
It is a statement of belief. A declaration that rugby still belongs to the people who love it. That Pasifika, Māori and all Asian Heritages of excellence must continue to be seen, heard, invested in, and celebrated. That young talent deserves genuine pathways, not closed doors.
For every child training on a field after school, every parent sacrificing to support a dream, every young player wondering if their chance will ever come — this platform is for you.
We are trailblazing a new chapter where legacy becomes opportunity.
Under the rightful stewardship of our family, Jonah’s name will continue to be used with purpose, dignity, and authenticity. It will not sit still in the past. It will live where it belongs — in communities, in young people, in culture, and in the future of the game.
We are especially proud that this platform will continue to elevate cultural excellence, while welcoming the world to stand beside us in unity through sport.
The excitement building around this tournament is only the beginning. We can already feel the energy, the support, and the belief of people who understand what Jonah represented — strength, humility, generosity, and hope.
To every young player who loves this game: keep going. Keep believing. Your story matters.
To every supporter walking beside us: thank you for trusting our vision.
And to Jonah — your name still moves people, your spirit still opens doors, and your legacy is helping the next generation rise.
With aroha, pride, and gratitude,
Nadene Lomu
