A legacy continues. A new generation rises with the Lomu Legacy International U18 Sevens Tournament

The Lomu Legacy International U18 Sevens Tournament continues to build momentum as an international youth rugby sevens event created to honour Jonah Lomu’s legacy and inspire the next generation of young athletes.

The inaugural tournament will be held in Auckland, New Zealand on 12–13 December 2026, bringing together international teams and some of New Zealand’s best emerging rugby talent for a powerful celebration of rugby, youth opportunity, culture, community, and global connection.

For Nadene, Brayley, and Dhyreille this tournament is deeply personal. Jonah was more than one of the world’s greatest rugby player. He was a proud Pasifika man, a father, a husband, and a global sporting figure whose influence transcended rugby. He inspired millions not only because of what he achieved on the field, but because of the humility, courage, and generosity he carried off it.

Nadene Lomu said “as the owner and guardian of the Jonah Lomu name, image, likeness, brand, and legacy, said it is both an honour and a responsibility for to carry and ensure Jonah’s legacy is protected, respected, and used in a way that creates genuine positive impact. Through the Lomu Legacy International U18 Sevens Tournament and the work of The Jonah Lomu Foundation, Jonah’s legacy is being carried forward with purpose, creating opportunities for young people, supporting communities, and giving back in Jonah’s name.”

“The tournament is more than a game. It is a platform for legacy, youth opportunity, cultural connection, community impact, and global inspiration. As one of the signature events connected to The Jonah Lomu Foundation, proceeds from the tournament will support the Foundation’s charitable purpose and youth-focused initiatives.”

“While the inaugural tournament begins in Auckland, the long-term vision is global and to grow the event into an international legacy platform that can connect rugby nations, inspire young athletes, and continue Jonah’s legacy across borders.”
